For Alpharetta students

From Alpharetta to the Duluth classroom

Alpharetta does not have its own Academy site. Every classroom session meets at Suite 201, 3250 Peachtree Industrial Blvd in Duluth, so a student from Downtown Alpharetta, the Avalon area or the neighborhoods around North Point heads east into Gwinnett County on class days. Range qualification for the Armed course is not held at that classroom address. The Bookeo listing for each date explains the range details.

The City of Alpharetta has been posting SR 400 Express Lanes project notices on its home page, including a scheduled northbound flex lane closure. If your usual way out of town uses SR 400, read the city's project updates during the week of class along with the live map. A lane closure on the wrong morning can change which route makes sense.

For timing, use the Google Maps button, which starts from Alpharetta, then swap in your own street address and look at the route for the morning you would actually leave. Plan to arrive early on day one so check-in does not cut into class.

Why Alpharetta officers need solid training

The Alpharetta Convention & Visitors Bureau counts more than 250 shops and 270-plus restaurants across the city, with featured districts such as Downtown Alpharetta, Avalon and North Point. During its November Retail Month the bureau promotes four shopping districts at once. Retail and dining corridors like these reward officers who can watch a busy floor without crowding customers, write a clean incident report and hand a situation to police properly.

Ameris Bank Amphitheatre brings concert crowds to the city, and its own site sells reserved lawn seating, a premium lounge entered from the Lower West Plaza, parking near the ticket gate and fast-lane entry for early arrivals. Each upgrade creates its own line or checkpoint. The Unarmed course covers access control, emergency response and communication, which is what a gate, lounge door or parking assignment at an outdoor show requires.

The city's welcome page talks about job opportunities, cultural events and green space, and its news feed runs from property tax bills to a farm education center at Old Rucker Farm. For a new officer, that range means posts can swing from a quiet office lobby to a packed holiday lighting downtown. The Complete Package suits students 21 or older who want the option of armed assignments later through a licensed employer.

Where Alpharetta security officers work

Alpharetta's shopping districts, outdoor amphitheater and office corridors show the kinds of posts a trained officer might pursue. The cards describe local sectors only. Places named here illustrate the skills involved, and completing a course is not a job offer.

Retail

Mixed-Use Districts

Walkable areas like Avalon and Downtown Alpharetta mix shops, homes and dining, so patrols blend customer service with steady observation.

Events

Amphitheater Gates

Outdoor concerts involve ticket gates, lawn sections, a lounge entrance and parking lots, each needing clear posts and radio checks. See event security services.

Hospitality

Hotel Lobbies

Visitors in town for concerts and shopping weekends stay in local hotels, where officers watch entrances and document guest incidents. See hotel security services.

Corporate

Office Reception Desks

Office buildings use front-desk officers for badge checks, visitor logs and after-hours rounds of parking decks.

Residential

Apartment Communities

Residential buildings near the city's districts call for gate posts, garage patrols and overnight reports. See apartment security services.

Armed

Armed Assignments

A few sites ask for armed coverage. Georgia requires armed licensees to be at least 21, with registration through a licensed employer. See armed security officers.

Alpharetta FAQ

Alpharetta security guard training questions

Still have a question? Call the Academy at 678-878-3152.

Q01Does the Academy hold classes in Alpharetta?

No. All Unarmed, Armed and Complete sessions meet in Duluth at 3250 Peachtree Industrial Blvd, Ste 201. Alpharetta students commute there for every classroom day. Range qualification for armed students is listed separately on each Bookeo date, so read that listing before you reserve. The directions link on this page opens a route from Alpharetta that you can edit to your exact address.

Q02Will SR 400 construction affect my trip from Alpharetta?

It might, depending on your route. The City of Alpharetta posts SR 400 Express Lanes notices, including scheduled lane closures, on its website. Check those updates and the live Google Maps route for the day and hour you plan to leave. If a closure lands on your class date, pick another way east or leave earlier.

Q03What security work exists around Alpharetta?

Alpharetta has retail districts such as Avalon, Downtown Alpharetta and North Point, a large outdoor amphitheater, hotels, apartments and office buildings. These settings can involve patrol, access control or event posts. These are examples of the local market, not openings. Finishing training does not guarantee a job, though graduates can apply to Private Eye Protection separately.

Q04I work in Alpharetta during the day. Can I still train?

Look at the session hours listed in Bookeo when you choose a date, then compare them with your shift and the commute to Duluth. Hours show before checkout, and the $100 deposit is non-refundable, so confirm the schedule works first. Staff at 678-878-3152 can explain upcoming dates if anything is unclear.

Q05How much does security guard training cost, and what do I pay today?

Unarmed is $250, Armed is $375 and the Complete Package is $550. Every course is reserved with a $100 non-refundable deposit through secure Bookeo and Square checkout. The balance, $150, $275 or $450, is due when you attend the training.

Q06Which course should I pick if I have never worked security?

Most beginners start with the 24-hour Unarmed course, which covers patrol, emergency response, legal authority, access control and report writing, plus American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED. If you are 21 or older and want armed work, the 40-hour Complete Package covers both courses for $75 less than booking them separately.

Q07How old do I need to be for armed security training?

You must be at least 21 for armed training. Georgia's Board requires armed security licensees to be 21 or older, and armed registration runs through a licensed security employer, so the course alone does not let you work armed. Check each course listing in Bookeo for its requirements before you reserve.

Q08Does finishing the course give me a Georgia security license?

No. The Academy provides state-required training and issues a Certificate of Completion for successful Unarmed completion, and the Armed course provides firearms training and qualification documentation that you use in the state process. The State of Georgia makes all licensing determinations.
