For Norcross students

Norcross to Duluth along the county's west side

Norcross lies just north of Interstate 85, which forms its southern boundary, with Peachtree Corners directly to the north. The classroom at 3250 Peachtree Industrial Blvd, Ste 201, Duluth, is further up the same side of the county.

Students come from the historic downtown, the neighborhoods off Jimmy Carter Boulevard and the areas near Indian Trail and Highway 378, and each starting point changes the drive. Check the live route from your address at the hour you would leave, then compare it with the session start on your Bookeo date.

If you rely on transit or a shared ride from Norcross, open the directions link in transit or rideshare mode and check that the arrival time works with the class start on your date. Call 678-878-3152 before paying the deposit if you have any doubt about getting there on time.

There are no classes at Norcross City Hall or the new Public Safety Building. All classroom training is in Duluth, and Armed range details are listed on Bookeo.

Norcross's downtown, parks and night markets

The Norcross visitors guide describes 150-year-old brick buildings converted into galleries, shops and restaurants. Thrasher Park has a concert pavilion, Lillian Webb Park has a splash pad, and Betty Mauldin Park is home to the largest American elm in Georgia. The city's events include the Jazz in the Alley summer concert series and a Día de los Muertos celebration. Concert nights in small parks surrounded by restaurants mean people moving in every direction at once, which is where an officer's position, radio habits and patience count.

The city calendar has also listed the Atlanta International Night Market in Norcross, a two-night event. Night markets combine vendors, cash, food and late hours, and they test basic security skills: watching the edges, keeping exits clear and writing down what happened.

Norcross recently opened a new Public Safety Building for its police department and municipal court, and the council has funded an expanded downtown parking project. Court buildings and parking structures both use screening, rounds and reports. Private officers are not police, but the course's legal authority unit explains what a private officer may and may not do.

The Lillian Webb Park splash pad is closed from November until April, and city park hours run from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Long park hours stretch coverage well into the evening.

Norcross FAQ

Norcross security guard training questions

Still have a question? Call the Academy at 678-878-3152.

Q01Are classes held anywhere in Norcross?

No. The Academy's only classroom is at 3250 Peachtree Industrial Blvd, Ste 201, in Duluth. Norcross students travel there for every classroom session. Armed and Complete students should read the range details on the Bookeo listing for their date before paying the $100 deposit.

Q02Which route should I take from Norcross?

That depends on whether you start downtown, near Jimmy Carter Boulevard or near Highway 378. Open the live Google Maps link from your address at the time you would leave. Exits 99, 101 and 102 on I-85 border the city, so the map may start you on any of them.

Q03What security work fits Norcross's downtown and industrial areas?

Norcross combines a historic downtown with concerts and night markets, apartment communities and industrial space near I-85. Those use event, patrol, apartment and gate posts. The course prepares you for that kind of work but does not promise a job at any site.

Q04Can Spanish-speaking students take the course?

Ask before you book. Call 678-878-3152 on a weekday to ask about the language of instruction and materials for the date you want, since that is a question about the class itself, not something this page can confirm. Staff can also explain how the session hours fit a commute from Norcross.

Q05What do I pay to reserve a seat, and what is left after that?

A $100 non-refundable deposit reserves any course through Bookeo with Square checkout. Remaining balances are $150 for Unarmed ($250 total), $275 for Armed ($375 total) and $450 for the Complete Package ($550 total), paid when you attend training. Prices are the same for every city.

Q06Which course should I pick if I have never worked security?

Most beginners start with the 24-hour Unarmed course, which covers patrol, emergency response, legal authority, access control and report writing, plus American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED. If you are 21 or older and want armed work, the 40-hour Complete Package covers both courses for $75 less than booking them separately.

Q07Is there an age requirement for the Armed course?

Yes. Armed training is for students 21 or older, matching Georgia's requirement for armed security licensees. Armed registration also goes through a licensed security employer, so finishing the course does not by itself allow armed work. Review the Bookeo listing for current course requirements before booking.

Q08What paperwork do I get at the end of training?

Successful Unarmed completion earns a Certificate of Completion, plus American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification once that portion is complete. Armed students receive firearms training and qualification documentation. Completion is not an automatic license. The State of Georgia makes all licensing determinations.
