For Fairburn students From Fairburn to the Duluth academy
There is no Fairburn classroom. Courses meet at 3250 Peachtree Industrial Blvd, Ste 201, in Duluth, Gwinnett County. Use the directions link on this page to see the route from your part of Fairburn before choosing a date.
Where you start shapes the trip. A student near City Hall on NW Broad Street, one close to the warehouses on Oakley Industrial Boulevard and one out by the festival grounds on Virlyn B. Smith Road will each pick up the interstate at a different point. Open the directions link from your actual address and check it at the time you would leave on a class morning.
Fairburn's commercial land along Oakley Industrial Boulevard was planned around freight access to I-85, so trucks share those roads at shift changes. If you live near the industrial district, check the route for the actual hour you would leave rather than a midday preview.
Range qualification for armed students is described on each Bookeo date and does not happen at the Duluth classroom. If you work rotating shifts at a Fairburn site, line up the session hours in Bookeo against your schedule before you pay, since the deposit is non-refundable.
Why Fairburn's industrial base matters for new officers
The city's own Largest Employers page reads like a supply chain: food distribution, third-party logistics, porous plastic components, pet food, thermal and acoustical insulation, building supplies and vehicle re-marketing. Operations like these depend on gatehouse logs, trailer and seal checks, perimeter rounds and accurate shift reports, skills the Unarmed course introduces.
The South Fulton Community Improvement District, formed in 1999, covers 6,446 acres of commercial and industrial property and invests in freight access along Oakley Industrial Boulevard and connections to I-85. Large acreage means long fence lines, many dock doors and a lot of vehicle traffic at the gate. Officers who patrol methodically and document what they see fit that kind of site.
Fairburn also draws a seasonal crowd. The Georgia Renaissance Festival, at 6905 Virlyn B. Smith Road, runs a spring festival and a fall series of Saturday dates, with ticketed entry, parking, an after-dark program and lost and found. Events of that size involve gates, parking direction and guest services, a different setting from warehouse work where the same access and reporting skills apply.
City Hall sits on NW Broad Street in the historic core, so Fairburn also has the smaller civic and storefront settings where an officer's report may be the only written account of an incident.
